VMware expands AWS Cloud Services VMware, a virtualization specialist and software vendor, has increased several offerings on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This is part of a broad push to simplify multicloud adoption and expand its Cloud Services portfolio. VMware claims it has improved the enterprise functionality of the offering by deploying the VMware Cloud on AWS service at AWS London. Stretched Clusters provide new high-availability capabilities. In a blog post last Wednesday, Raghu Raghuram, a VMware executive, stated that applications in VMware Cloud on AWS will be able to take advantage of the high availability capability built directly into infrastructure. “We’re expanding a proven model to protect applications from the datacenter and the cloud, complementing AWS’s world-class cloud. Customers can be confident that their applications will receive the same level protection and availability as today. This is done as a native capability that we have built into the infrastructure, removing developers from the responsibility to custom build it into each application. VMware was one of many announcements.

  • VMware Hybrid Cloud Extension Service for Private Cloud: This Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering provides application mobility and infrastructure hybridity across different vSphere versions, on-premises and cloud implementations.
  • Expanded Wavefront by VMware Service – Another SaaS offering. This is a high-scale analytics and metrics platform that supports cloud-native enterprise applications on public and private cloud infrastructures such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, workloads on Azure, and now VMware Cloud On AWS.
  • VMware Log Intelligence Service – This new offering for VMware Cloud Services will reportedly provide deep operational insights into VMware Cloud on AWS and VMware-based datacenters.
  • Expanded VMware Cost-Insight Service: This service adds to the existing support for AWS, Microsoft Azure and VMware private clouds datacenters. It provides detailed assessments for migrating workloads on AWS to VMware Cloud and calculates the cost and capacity of running apps in public or private clouds.

VMware’s Sai Gopalan stated that VMware Cloud on AWS is a seamless integrated hybrid cloud offering. It gives customers the software-defined cloud (SDDC) experience from the world leader in private cloud, VMware. It runs on top-of-the-line public cloud provider AWS. VMware Cloud on AWS combines the best of VMware with AWS. It offers customers an operationally consistent, familiar way to manage, secure, and run applications in a hybrid cloud. Customers also have access to a wide range of AWS services, including robust disaster protection and innovative services.
